"Yastrebets Trail Run" and "Musala Extreme"
For the first time this year, the KIS "DUNAVSKA" club is organizing, in partnership with "BOROSPORT", two mountain running races in Borovets: “Musala Extreme” – 38 km with 2200 m of elevation gain, and “Yastrebets Trail Run” – 16 km with 1000 m of elevation gain.
The start will be in front of Hotel Rila. The short course will take participants through the Yastrebets and Markudjik ski centre's along a marked trail up to Yastrebets Peak, then back down via the Musala Pathway to the start/finish area.
As for the long 38 km route – the challenge there is much tougher, as runners will have to climb Musala peak via the ridge that passes through Aleko Peak and Ludmil Yankov Peak. Once they reach the summit – where there will be an aid station – only a small amount of elevation remains, including sections over The Twins, Marishki Chal, and Mancho Peak. From there, it’s a comfortable descent toward the finish, passing the Zavrachitsa and Chakar Voyvoda huts, where the remaining aid stations will be located.
Elite athletes have already signed up for the races, and the organizers are extending the registration deadline to August 10, with the initiative that half of every paid registration during this period will be donated to help restore vegetation in areas affected by the fires.
