Celebration for the 2026 Winter Season and Borovets’ 130th Birthday
Celebration for the 2026 Winter Season and Borovets’ 130th Birthday
In 2026, Bulgaria’s first mountain resort will celebrate 130 years since its founding in 1896. Borovets was created by Tsar Ferdinand and the royal family as a summer hunting destination and was developed into an international ski center during the 1970s and 1980s, thanks to the successes of the Bulgarian ski legend from Samokov, Peter Popangelov, and the efforts of his father, Peter Popangelov Sr.
On Saturday, 27 December, at the plaza in front of the Rila Hotel, Borovets will give a festive start to the celebrations for the 130th anniversary, as well as to the 2026 Ski Season. The organizers of the Celebration – Samokov Municipality, “Borosport” JSC, and the Union of Hoteliers in Borovets – have planned numerous entertainments, games, and prizes for all guests.
During the Celebration, lift passes for children up to 13 years of age will be at the symbolic price of 1 BGN, and for all other age groups – at half price.
Every participant in the games during the Celebration, as well as in the Instagram game “Memories of Borovets”, will also be able to take part in a sweepstakes to win a season lift pass or one of 130 day lift passes that Borosport will give away for the resort’s anniversary. Numerous additional prizes include weekend stays for two in 4* hotels, vouchers for ski/snowboard lessons, vouchers for dinners, spa treatments, and many others.
The program includes a variety of activities for children, winter sports enthusiasts, and guests of the resort. Highlights include a “Historic Treasure Hunt”, “Ski Slalom and Snowboard with the Champions” with legends Pepi Popangelov and Sani Zhekova, freestyle demo jumps on the AirBag, children’s workshops with local artisans and artists, as well as an A.I. photo corner and a snow bar. All guests of the Celebration will be able to take photos with “Bai Slave’s omnibus”, which will arrive specially from the set of director Viktor Bozhinov’s film “Chamkoria”, based on Milen Ruskov’s novel.
In the afternoon, the official opening ceremony of the season will take place with the participation of Alexander Sano, the Choir of the “Spiritual Music” Association led by and featuring soloist Hari Draganov, a sweepstakes, a laser and fire show, as well as a concert by the band “Molets” and DJ Dopamine.
